On Sunday the 14th, heavy showers with thunder and lightning are expected across most of the country except the southern regions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 13th, sudden showers are forecast between afternoon and evening on the 14th in the greater Seoul area, inland Gangwon, the Chungcheong region, North Jeolla, northern South Jeolla, and inland western Gyeongsang. In southeastern Gyeonggi and southern inland Gangwon, precipitation could continue until late at night, and some parts of Jeju Island could also see sprinkles from afternoon into the night.
Expected rainfall from these showers is forecast at 5–50 mm for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Honam. Inland Gangwon and inland Gyeongsang are expected to see 5–30 mm, and Jeju Island less than 5 mm. In particular, the greater Seoul area including Seoul, South Chungcheong, and the Jeolla region could see brief downpours around 20 mm per hour, calling for caution.
Due to atmospheric instability, areas seeing rain may experience brief strong winds and lightning strikes, and some continental inland areas could see hail, so extra caution is advised to prevent damage to facilities and in managing crops.
For the time being, temperatures will run above normal levels (morning 15–19 C, daytime 23–29 C), feeling mild to somewhat hot. On the 14th, morning lows nationwide will range from 14–20 C, and daytime highs will rise to 25–31 C. Except along the East Sea coast, most areas will see daytime temperatures around 30 C, bringing a smooth early-summer heat.
Morning lows by major area: Seoul and Incheon 20 C, Chuncheon 16 C, Daejeon, Daegu, Jeonju, Gwangju, and Busan 19 C, and Jeju 20 C. Daytime highs: Seoul 29 C, Incheon 28 C, Chuncheon 29 C, Gangneung 27 C, Daejeon 30 C, Jeonju 29 C, Gwangju 29 C, with Daegu climbing to 31 C, the hottest, and Busan and Jeju holding at 26 C.
Along the West Sea coast, dense fog is expected to settle in, reducing visibility, so drivers should keep ample following distance to prevent rear-end collisions on the morning commute or outings. When it rains, roads become slick and visibility narrows, so heed traffic safety.
Seas are expected to grow rough from the afternoon, especially in the far southern waters off Jeju Island and the far eastern South Sea. With strong winds and high waves forecast, vessels heading out to sail or fish should check real-time marine weather information.
Fine dust concentrations will remain clean at "good" or "moderate" levels across all regions thanks to smooth atmospheric dispersion.
