Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon on the 10th, regarding the trial over the alleged proxy payment of opinion poll fees, said, "It is only right that investigative authorities indict Myung Tae-gyun's group for fraud."
Meeting reporters as he appeared for the hearing of his trial on charges of violating the Political Funds Act at the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Division 22 (Presiding Judge Cho Hyeong-woo) that day, Oh said, "As Min Joong-ki's special counsel aimed, the phase of influencing the election has passed." The hearing was the first since Oh was elected Seoul mayor in the June 3 local elections.
Oh said, "The worst kind of investigative authority in the world is one that indicts by swapping the criminal and the victim," adding, "In that sense, the Min Joong-ki special counsel (the Kim Keon-hee special counsel team) is truly vicious."
Oh said, "Through the trial process, it was revealed that all the opinion polls provided by Myung and by Kang Hye-kyung and others in the group were fake opinion polls with inflated sample sizes, and there was an in-court confession," adding, "In this situation, investigative authorities should promptly conclude the investigation of Myung Tae-gyun's group for fraud and indict them, but there has been no progress at all."
Oh was sent to trial last December on charges that, ahead of the April 7, 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, he received results of non-public opinion polls a total of 10 times—including three published and seven non-published polls—from Myung, and had 33 million won in expenses paid on his behalf to Kim through Kang Chul-won, then chief of staff and former vice mayor.
