A man in his 30s who posed as a police officer using a police ID forged with artificial intelligence (AI) and entered a home where a woman lived alone to steal valuables has been handed over to prosecutors.
According to police on the 10th, Jeju Seobu Police Station arrested and sent A, a man in his 30s suspected of robbery, to the prosecution. A is accused of breaking into a multi-family house in Yeon-dong, Jeju City, at about 1:50 a.m. on the 27th and stealing cash and jewelry and other valuables worth about 3 million won.
Police believe A forged a police ID using AI, rang the victim's doorbell, and entered the home after telling the victim, "Police," and "We came to conduct a search and seizure." A reportedly committed the crime after learning in advance that the victim was a woman living alone.
About 17 hours after the crime, the victim, sensing something was wrong, reported it to police, and police made an emergency arrest of A, who was on the run, on the 28th, the following day. Police investigated A over the specific circumstances of the crime and possible additional offenses, then handed the case over to prosecutors.
