Police investigating the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport on Dec. 29, 2024, have launched another search and seizure of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Korean National Police Agency National Office of Investigation (NOI) special investigation team for the 12/29 passenger plane disaster said it has been executing a search and seizure warrant on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport since 9 a.m. on the 10th. The special team also searched the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March.
The special team said the move is to secure additional materials to determine the cause of the disaster.
On the 29th of last month, the special team shared with prosecutors the investigation status, including an opinion to indict 34 suspects and a plan to seek custody for five. However, prosecutors are reviewing the legal issues, considering that the final report by the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board on whether there were airframe defects or pilot error has not been released.
At about 9:03 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2024, Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, which had departed from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted a belly landing at Muan International Airport and hit a localizer (azimuth facility) built on a concrete mound. The passenger jet exploded, killing 179 of the 181 people on board.
