Two police officers in North Chungcheong Province are under internal affairs investigation after failing to respond to a report of a suspected drunk driving vehicle. They reportedly did not go to the scene because they were sleeping on duty despite receiving a dispatch order.
According to the North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency on June 10, police are conducting an internal probe into Inspector A and Senior Inspector B of a precinct under the Eumseong Police Station. Inspector A and Senior Inspector B was found to have failed to respond to the scene around 3 a.m. on Mar. 29 in Eumseong, North Chungcheong, despite a report of a vehicle suspected of drunk driving.
At the time, the caller followed the suspected drunk driving vehicle and reported it to police. However, when no response was made, the caller reportedly dialed 112 again about an hour later.
It was learned during the control room's review of the response that the two officers did not go to the scene despite receiving a dispatch order. Police believe they failed to respond because they were sleeping at the precinct and are checking the facts.
Police ultimately failed to apprehend the driver of the vehicle. As a result, they reportedly could not confirm whether the driver was actually drunk. The North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency plans to conclude the internal affairs probe and then convene a disciplinary committee to decide the level of discipline for Inspector A and Senior Inspector B.
