Authorities will conduct an additional forensic inspection at the site of the explosion at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant that left seven people dead or injured.
According to the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency on the 9th, starting at 10:30 a.m. the same day, about 20 officials from the police, the National Forensic Service, the Daejeon Fire Headquarters, and the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) will begin a joint inspection. The focus will be on identifying the initial ignition point and the cause of ignition.
An explosion occurred at 10:59 a.m. on the 1st in the washing room of Building 56 at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant. Five workers were killed and two were seriously or moderately injured. Investigators have conducted a joint on-site inspection since the following day and have carried out search-and-seizure operations and interviews with those involved.
Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il was booked the previous day on suspicion of violating the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and Daejeon plant chief Ga Jae-ung was booked on suspicion of occupational negligence resulting in death or injury and violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Police also imposed an overseas travel ban on them and three other Hanwha Aerospace officials.
