Yongin city in Gyeonggi province said on the 8th that it received the Presidential Commendation for Institutions in the 2025 National Disaster Management Meritorious Service (Safe Korea Exercise sector) hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Previously, Yongin city won the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation as an excellent institution in the 2023 Safe Korea Exercise and this year received the Presidential Commendation for Institutions.
The award recognizes the city's execution of the second READY Korea exercise conducted on May 21 last year at Guseong Station on GTX-A (metropolitan express railway).
The READY Korea exercise is a large-scale, live training hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in which related agencies participate to inspect the national disaster response system. It proceeds by setting disaster scenarios that are hard to predict, such as flooding in underground stations, structural collapse, and fires. Agencies that joined the training with Yongin city operated a response system as if in a real situation based on an organic cooperative relationship and focused on checking on-site response capabilities.
An official at Yongin city said, "The Presidential Commendation for Institutions is a meaningful achievement accomplished together by all related agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare," adding, "We will do our best to build a safer Republic of Korea by enhancing disaster response capabilities through training for various disaster situations."
