Police have launched a preliminary inquiry (pre-booking investigation) in connection with the leak of personal information from the CU convenience store parcel service.
The Cyber Terror Response Division of the National Office of Investigation (NOI) at the Korean National Police Agency said on the 8th, "In connection with the CU convenience store parcel personal information leak, we launched a preliminary inquiry on the 6th to comprehensively determine the overall facts of the case and swiftly arrest the suspect."
Police plan to verify how the personal information was leaked and the scope of damage, while simultaneously pursuing procedures to track the suspected leaker.
According to BGF Networks, which operates the CU convenience store parcel service, on the 4th an unidentified hacker accessed the system and indications of a personal information leak were confirmed. Personal information including IDs and passwords, names, gender, addresses, emails, and mobile phone numbers is presumed to have been leaked.
BGF Networks said it immediately blocked the attacking IP upon detecting the incident and reported it to relevant authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
