Police have launched a full-fledged investigation into the National Election Commission over the ballot paper shortage that occurred during the 9th nationwide local elections (the June 3 local elections).
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Division summoned Kim Sun-hwan, secretary-general of the Citizens' Committee for People's Livelihood Measures (Seominwi), at 9:30 a.m. as the complainant and is under investigation. Seominwi on the 4th accused Chair Roh Tae-ak of the National Election Commission and Chair Oh Min-seok, among others, of abuse of authority and dereliction of duty.
Appearing at the police on the day, Secretary-General Kim said, "The term of Chair Roh Tae-ak of the National Election Commission ended in March, and saying now that he will resign is deceiving the public," adding, "They say the matter is wrapped up with the chair's resignation, but that's laughable."
Police and prosecutors plan to continue investigating the ballot shortage after President Lee Jae-myung ordered the formation of a joint investigation headquarters on the previous day.
