A man in his 40s was booked by police after he beat his pet dog and dragged it by force on a downtown street in Gwangju. As a tip video released by an animal rights group spread online, criticism of the man has continued.
On the 4th, the animal rights group Life released footage showing a man dragging a small white dog believed to be his pet. The video shows that at about 3 p.m. on the 3rd, on a street in Ssangchon-dong, Seo District, Gwangju, the man struck the dog multiple times with a stick in his hand after the dog resisted and could not walk properly. The man pulled the dog by its leash, and when the dog sank to the ground, he assaulted it again.
Life released the video on social media (SNS) and said, "We arrived at the scene in Gwangju and identified the suspect who abused the pet dog," and noted, "Police are currently investigating, and we have also requested cooperation from the Gwangju Seo District Office."
Police, who received the informant's report, tracked the man and at about 4:20 p.m. on the 4th booked owner A, 43, on suspicion of violating the law. A reportedly told police that the pet dog did not obey, so A dragged it by force. Police are investigating A for any additional abuse and the exact circumstances of the case.
