An employee of a partner company who injured two workers in a stabbing rampage at an LG Electronics office has been handed over to prosecutors.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul said on the 5th that it referred a partner company employee, a person surnamed Jeong (60), to detention and indictment on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police initially investigated by applying attempted murder and aggravated assault, respectively, to the two victims. As a result of the investigation, they determined that Jeong committed the crime with the intent to kill both victims and applied attempted murder to both.
They have not yet reached a conclusion on whether workplace bullying, which Jeong claimed as the motive, occurred. Related details will be further investigated during the prosecution's probe.
Jeong is accused of wielding a weapon at around 11 a.m. on the 27th of last month on the second floor of Science Park, LG Electronics' Magok business complex, seriously injuring two LG Electronics employees. The victims, a man in his 50s and a man in his 40s, were taken to a hospital with injuries to the side and arm, respectively, and are not in life-threatening condition.
After holding a warrant review on the 29th of last month, the court issued an arrest warrant, citing concerns of flight. Appearing for the warrant review that day, Jeong said, "I feel sorry toward the victims," but also claimed, "I could not contain my deep anger at the dismissal notice." Jeong also said there had been bullying at a "gapjil" level.
The victims, on the other hand, claimed the point was that Jeong had difficulty performing his duties and requested a change of duties through the head of the partner company. LG Electronics said its internal review found no indication of workplace bullying as Jeong claimed.
