The Korean National Police Agency said a total of 312 election-related 112 calls had been received as of 3 p.m. on the 3rd, the day of in-person voting for the 9th nationwide local elections (the June 3 local elections).
There were 53 cases of interference with voting or disturbances, 14 cases of traffic inconvenience, and 3 assaults. Other matters, including misreports, accounted for most of the calls at 242.
In Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, at about 12:18 p.m., a man caused a disturbance and protested after attempting to vote again following his ballot, saying he would "point out election fraud."
In Gangdong District, Seoul, a woman in her 70s protested, saying her signature was already on the voter list. It was found that an election manager had, by mistake, signed the voter list of another person.
As of 4 p.m. that day, including the early voting rate, turnout stood at 54.1%. That is 8.8 percentage points higher than in the 8th local elections four years ago.
