Daejeon O-World, which had closed after the escape accident of the wolf "Neukgu," will reopen after about two months.
On the 3rd, Daejeon O-World said, "Thank you to everyone who waited," and announced it will reopen on the 5th. O-World said, "We deeply apologize for the concern and inconvenience caused during use," and added, "We have finished preparations to become a safer and more enjoyable O-World."
The Geum River Basin Environmental Office sent an official document granting reopening approval to O-World the day before. After conducting an on-site inspection on the 29th to verify whether O-World had carried out the facility improvement measures ordered, it found no issues.
On Apr. 8, Neukgu escaped from O-World and was captured 10 days later. Daejeon City Corporation, which operates O-World, received an order from the Geum River Basin Environmental Office on Apr. 20 to suspend use of the zoo facilities. Since then, it has continued measures to prevent a recurrence, including reinforcing the chain-link fence at the wolf enclosure.
Neukgu's health condition is reported to be good. The wolf has been reunited with its family, and it is said to be able to jump higher than before.
With the extended closure, 11 tenant businesses inside O-World—including cafes, restaurants, character shops, and convenience stores—were unable to operate. Daejeon City Corporation plans to assess the damages and provide compensation.
