On the 3rd, after confirming the identities of the five people who died in the explosion at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant, the bereaved families vented their anger at the company.
According to The Chosun Ilbo on the 3rd, Son Jae-il, the head of Hanwha Aerospace, visited the funeral hall at Yuseong Sun Hospital in Daejeon with employees at about 10:42 a.m. that day. The bodies of all five people who died in the accident are at this hospital.
The bereaved families protested toward Son. One family member said, "What would contract workers know," and added, "You threw (our family) into the fires of hell." Another family member said, "The company has experience related to the 2018 and 2019 accidents; didn't you make a commitment that (something like this) must not happen again going forward?"
After meeting the bereaved families, Son said to reporters, "I am truly sorry," and added, "We will do our utmost to handle the aftermath of the accident." He continued, "However we could comfort the profound grief of the families, we will devote ourselves as much as possible."
An explosion occurred at about 10:59 a.m. on the 1st in the washing room of Building 56 at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant. Five people died, and two suffered serious and moderate injuries. Among the dead, two were in their 50s, one in their 30s, and two in their 20s. The two victims in their 20s were contract workers who joined together in February.
