Tap water service was cut off to more than 20,000 households near an underpass construction site in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, after a water supply pipe was damaged. Yongin City deployed water trucks for emergency supply, and Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) is carrying out restoration work.
According to Yongin City on Dec. 2, at about 9:20 a.m. a leak occurred at the construction site for the Local Road No. 315 underpass and the expansion of Hagalgyo in Bora-dong, Giheung-gu. The project is being carried out by Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), and the water supply pipe was reportedly damaged during construction.
Yongin City identified the leak point around 10 a.m. and began restoration work. The city announced on its website that a water outage occurred due to a leak during the Bora-dong underpass construction, and that pipe repairs are underway after completing pumping operations.
The outage area covers Gongse-dong, Jigok-dong, Bora-dong, Gomae-dong and Hagal-dong, and Seocheon-dong in Giheung-gu. Yongin City has deployed eight water trucks to the affected area for emergency supply. The Yongin City Hall water facilities division has reportedly been receiving a stream of civil complaints asking when the outage will be lifted.
Restoration work is expected to be completed around 5 p.m. today. Yongin City plans to consider additional support, such as providing drinking water, if restoration is delayed longer than expected.
