It was belatedly learned that medical staff at CHA University Bundang CHA Hospital responded quickly to emergencies that occurred on subways during commuting hours, helping citizens avert crisis.
According to Bundang CHA Hospital on the 2nd, Nurse Park Ji-yeon of the Nursing Department and Clinical Laboratory Scientist Tae Ji-young of the Cardiology Team each helped citizens who showed emergency symptoms on subways during the evening commute and the morning commute, respectively.
Around 9 p.m. on Mar. 3, Nurse Park witnessed a man in his 50s break out in a cold sweat and complain of dizziness before suddenly collapsing at a subway station on her way home. Park immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the man soon regained consciousness.
Considering the possibility of hypoglycemia, Park purchased a drink from a nearby vending machine to help replenish blood sugar and took additional emergency measures. The man's condition stabilized and he went home, and on the previous month he contacted the hospital directly to express his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the swift and accurate judgment of a nurse whose name I do not even know, I was able to overcome a major crisis."
Park is known to be a newly hired nurse with less than a year at the hospital. Park said, "Routine emergency response training was a great help in a real situation," and added, "I will continue to respond swiftly and accurately to emergencies and do my best to protect patient safety."
Around 7 a.m. on Apr. 4, Clinical Laboratory Scientist Tae spotted a man in his 60s showing sudden dizziness and confusion on a Suin-Bundang Line subway on the way to work. Tae gave up the seat, checked the man's condition, confirmed his current medications, underlying diseases, and symptoms, and recommended prompt hospital care.
The man was later diagnosed with arrhythmia in a hospital exam. Thanks to early detection, he was reportedly able to receive treatment before it progressed to a severe stage. The man's wife delivered a thank-you letter and a reward to the hospital, saying, "Thanks to the employee who did not just pass by during the busy morning rush but looked after him with care, we were able to protect our family."
Bundang CHA Hospital plans to use the reward through the hospital's Guardian Angel Fund to support treatment for patients facing financial hardship. The hospital plans to present commendations to Nurse Park and Clinical Laboratory Scientist Tae at the 31st anniversary founding ceremony on the 5th.
