Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball (MLB) hammered five hits in a game, writing new history for Korean big leaguers.
On the 1st (Korean time), Lee Jung-hoo started as the No. 5 hitter and right fielder in a road game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, going 5-for-6 with two RBIs and one run.
This is Lee Jung-hoo's first five-hit game since debuting in the majors in 2024. Including his KBO League days, it is his second overall, after a game against LG in Aug. 2018.
It is also the first time a Korean major leaguer has recorded five hits in a game. Even Choo Shin-soo, Kang Jung-ho and Kim Ha-seong did not achieve it.
Recently sidelined briefly with a side injury, Lee Jung-hoo looked fully revived in the three-game set against Colorado. He went 11-for-15 in the series, lifting his season batting average to .304.
He delivered from his first at-bat. With two outs and runners on first and second in the first, he lined an RBI single to center off starter Tanner Gordon to open the scoring. That RBI stood up as the game-winner.
After flying out to left in the third, he singled in every plate appearance. Leading off the fifth, he ripped a double off the top of the center-field wall, then scored on the next hit.
San Francisco broke it open with seven runs in the fifth. Lee Jung-hoo had two hits in the inning, and Willy Adames added a grand slam.
Lee Jung-hoo's bat stayed hot late. He added an RBI single to center in the seventh, and in the eighth, even with catcher Brett Sullivan on the mound, he tacked on another hit to complete his five-hit game.
San Francisco pounded out 25 hits and routed Colorado 19-6. Every starter recorded a hit, a run and an RBI, and Jonah Cox, making his big league debut, logged his first hit and first run.
Snapping a five-game skid, San Francisco improved to 23-36 and stayed fourth in the National League West. Colorado fell to 22-38 and remained in last place in the division.
