As of 3 p.m. on the first day of early voting for the 9th nationwide local elections on the 29th, the nationwide average turnout stood at 8.15%. That is slightly higher than at the same time in the previous local elections.
According to the National Election Commission, from 6 a.m. when early voting began, 3,640,057 out of 44,649,908 eligible voters cast ballots.
This is 0.9 percentage points higher than the early voting rate as of 3 p.m. during the 2022 8th local elections.
By region, North Jeolla recorded the highest turnout at 14.16%. It was followed by South Jeolla at 13.78%, Gwangju at 13.78%, Gangwon at 10.42%, and Jeju at 8.77%.
Daegu, by contrast, was the lowest in the country at 6.35%. Gyeonggi at 6.74%, Incheon at 7.02%, and Daejeon at 7.49% were also below the national average. Seoul was tallied at 7.66%.
Early voting runs for two days through the 30th. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voters can cast ballots at any early voting station nationwide by bringing an ID such as a resident registration card, driver's license, or passport. The locations of early voting stations can be checked on the National Election Commission website.
