With the collapse of the Seosomun overpass in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) said on the 27th it will adjust some train operations starting with the first train.
KORAIL said it will inevitably adjust operations of some trains on the 27th to ensure safe service, as it expects Seoul's restoration work to take considerable time.
KORAIL first suspended KTX service on the Seoul–Haengsin Station section on the 27th.
In addition, on the Gyeongbu and Honam lines, KTX will operate only on the Seoul–Busan Station and Yongsan–Mokpo/Yeosu EXPO Station sections. On the Gangneung and Jungang lines, KTX will operate only on the Cheongnyangni–Gangneung and Cheongnyangni–Bujeon Station sections.
However, all KTX trains will make temporary stops at stations they normally pass without stopping, so delays are expected.
For regular trains, to disperse congestion at Seoul Station, Mugunghwa on the Gyeongbu Line will run only Daejeon–Busan Station, Mugunghwa on the Honam Line will run only Seodaejeon–Mokpo/Yeosu EXPO Station, and the Janghang Line will run only Iksan–Cheonan Station.
All ITX-Saemaeul and ITX-Maum trains will operate only to and from Suwon Station.
Line 1 and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Munsan–Yongsan–Yongmun) will operate normally.
For commuter trains on the Gyeongui Line, service will run Munsan Station–Susaek Station, but service on the Seoul–Susaek section will be suspended.
KORAIL will add a total of four late-night temporary commuter trains through 1:50 a.m. on the 27th to minimize inconvenience for passenger train users. The temporary trains will run a total of four times on four lines: the Gyeongbu, Gyeongin, Gyeongwon, and Gyeongui-Jungang lines.
KORAIL said it plans to inspect the catenary supplying electricity, rails, and electric and signal facilities and then decide on a return to normal operations as soon as Seoul's restoration work is completed.
KORAIL also urged passengers to check train times and operating conditions before travel via the mobile app "KORAIL Talk," the website, and the Railroad Customer Center, as departure and arrival stations may change depending on the accident response.
