A week after applications opened for the second round of high oil price damage support payments, complaints are spreading online as reports mount of people being excluded from eligibility.
Recently, posts have been appearing on online communities and social media saying that, after checking eligibility, they saw the result "not eligible for payment." Reactions mixing questions and complaints about the criteria also continue, such as "They said the bottom 70% by income, so I don't know why I was rejected," "Who on earth is getting this?" and "It also says I'm not eligible."
The second round of high oil price damage support payments is provided to the bottom 70% by income among people residing in Korea as of Mar. 30, the payment reference date. The government paid the first round from late April to early May and began accepting second-round applications last week.
Eligibility is determined based on National Health Insurance premiums, and the threshold amount varies depending on the number of household members and whether they are enrolled as workplace-based or community-based subscribers. Because of this, results can differ not only by individual income but also by whether both spouses work, the number of household members, and whether they are workplace-based or community-based subscribers.
Even if National Health Insurance premiums are at or below the threshold, those are excluded from eligibility if the combined standard taxable base for property tax exceeds 1.2 billion won or if total financial income exceeds 20 million won.
Eligibility can be checked through the government's dedicated inquiry system, and once confirmed as eligible, support funds are paid out sequentially according to payment standards by place of residence.
