A section of structure collapsed at the demolition site of the Seosomun overpass in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
According to fire authorities, a report of a structural collapse was received at about 2:32 p.m. on the 26th. Sixty-two firefighters and about 30 police officers arrived at the scene and are conducting rescue operations.
Two people were reportedly trapped under the structure. About six others were also reported injured. Fire authorities are verifying the exact number of casualties.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) suspended train service between Seoul Station and Sinchon Station due to the collapse.
The Seosomun overpass was completed in 1966. After receiving a "grade D" rating in a detailed safety inspection, demolition work had been underway since September last year. The demolition was scheduled to be completed next month.
