Train service is also being disrupted due to a collapse at the demolition site of the Seosomun overpass in Seodaemun District, Seoul.
The Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) said on the 26th that a power cutoff occurred on the catenary between Seoul Station and Sinchon Station due to an accident on the Seosomun overpass in Seoul, suspending train service on that section. As a result, commuter trains between Seoul Station and Susaek Station were also suspended.
Line No. 1 trains and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line running between Munsan and Yongsan and Yongmun stations are operating normally. Trains from Seoul Station bound for Busan and Mokpo are also operating normally.
For KTX, service was suspended between Haengsin and Seoul and Yongsan stations. All other KTX trains are operating normally to Seoul Station and Yongsan Station.
For conventional trains, some sections were adjusted to disperse congestion at Seoul Station. Trains between Daejeon and Suwon will run only to Suwon Station, and trains coming north from south of Daejeon will run only to Daejeon Station. Janghang Line trains will also run only to Cheonan Station.
KORAIL advised that departure and arrival stations may change depending on the recovery from the accident and asked passengers to check service status via the mobile app "KORAIL Talk," the website, or the rail customer center before traveling.
A KORAIL official said, "Due to the collapse during demolition work on the Seosomun overpass between Seoul and Sinchon, significant disruptions such as train service suspensions are occurring, so please use other means of transportation."
According to fire authorities, a report that "a structure has collapsed" was received at about 2:32 p.m. that day. Rescuers dispatched to the scene rescued six people, but a man in his 50s and a man in his 60s died.
