Musical actor Jeong Min-chan, who sparked controversy after posting a "proof shot" of himself drinking a Starbucks beverage on his social media (SNS) account, has stepped down from the production he was appearing in.
On the 22nd, production company Showplay said via its official SNS account and online ticketing page that actor Jeong Min-chan, who is participating in its musical "Diaghilev," "has decided to step down from the show after sufficient discussions with the production company."
Showplay said, "We apologize to the audience for causing concern over matters related to actor Jeong Min-chan and for the inconvenience and confusion caused by the sudden decision."
On the 20th, when Starbucks Korea stirred controversy by running "Tank Day" marketing on the May 18 Democratization Movement memorial day, Jeong Min-chan posted a photo on his SNS of himself drinking a beverage at a Starbucks store. Some internet users criticized it as "inappropriate."
In response, Jeong Min-chan posted on SNS that "I don't really follow news or hot issues, so I don't know what to say with all this attention and I don't know where to put myself," adding, "Not knowing and being ignorant are also wrong, so I offer my apology." The posts have since been deleted.
