Seongdong Police Station Chief Kwon Mi-ye, Seoul, who faced allegations of commuting in an official electric vehicle designated for emergency dispatches to avoid the odd-even vehicle operation rule for public institutions, has been placed on standby.
The Korean National Police Agency said on the 21st that it has launched an official internal affairs investigation into Chief Kwon. The Korean National Police Agency said, "We will take stern action against any misconduct confirmed by the internal affairs investigation," adding, "In light of the national energy crisis and the campaign period, we ordered police nationwide to reemphasize establishing public service discipline, including complying with the vehicle rotation rule and maintaining election neutrality."
Chief Kwon is suspected of using an official electric vehicle not subject to the odd-even rule for commuting instead of the commander's car after the rule was implemented for public institutions. However, the vehicle in question was designated for use in emergency dispatches from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day.
Kang Yu-jung, senior presidential spokesperson, said at a morning briefing that President Lee Jae-myung, after being briefed on the allegations, ordered strict accountability through a swift internal affairs probe.
