It belatedly became known that the victim in the Miryang group sexual assault case was booked by police on suspicion of providing the personal information of people involved in the case to YouTubers.
The Incheon Samsan Police Station said on the 19th that it booked victim A and A's younger sibling without detention on suspicion of violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
A and others are suspected of providing personal information of those connected to the Miryang sexual violence case to YouTubers between 2023 and last year.
A police investigation found that, through a written judgment obtained in the capacity of a victim, they shared externally the perpetrators' real names, addresses, resident registration numbers, and other personal information.
In the process, it was reported that the personal information of third parties not directly related to the case was also leaked.
After receiving a complaint and conducting an investigation, police concluded that the suspicion of a personal information leak was substantiated and plan to refer A and others to prosecutors soon.
The Miryang group sexual assault case is an incident in which 44 high school students in Miryang, South Gyeongsang, sexually assaulted a middle school girl from Ulsan over a long period in Dec. 2004.
The case drew renewed attention recently as the perpetrators' identities were disclosed online, and controversy over "private sanctions" continued around it.
