A man in his 20s who assaulted a woman he did not know in the middle of Gangnam, Seoul, was subdued by citizens and taken into custody by police.
On the 18th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said it arrested a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of causing injury and assault.
A is accused of assaulting a woman he saw for the first time in an alley near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at about 8:30 p.m. on the 12th.
According to police, A came out of a restaurant after drinking and suddenly assaulted a woman passing by. Citizens who witnessed the scene chased down A, who tried to flee, and subdued the person, and in the process one citizen was also injured in the jaw area, among other places, it was found.
Responding to a report, police arrested A in the act. The victim was reportedly diagnosed with injuries requiring two weeks of treatment.
In a police interview, A is said to have stated to the effect that "it seemed like someone was staring at me."
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
