Acting Commissioner Yoo Jae-seong of the Korean National Police Agency said on the 18th at a full session of the Public Administration and Security Committee of the National Assembly that the agency will launch a preliminary inquiry (an investigation before a case is formally opened) in connection with construction errors, including missing rebar, found in the GTX-A Samsung Station section.
Yoo said, "Because there has been media coverage and lawmakers have raised concerns, I was briefed that we plan to begin a pre-booking inquiry based on the facts."
The Democratic Party of Korea argues that People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon should be held responsible, citing reasons including that the Seoul city government did not immediately report the missing rebar to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
People Power Party lawmakers countered by bringing up Democratic Party of Korea candidate Chong Won-o's past assault case.
When People Power Party lawmaker Ko Dong-jin asked about the allegation that candidate Chong gave a "false explanation," presenting the 1995 judgment, Acting Commissioner Yoo said, "A complaint has been filed, and we are currently investigating on suspicion of announcing false information under the Public Official Election Act."
Asked whether "it is common for officers who are dispatched to a scene to be assaulted," Acting Commissioner Yoo answered, "In the course of police duties, there are at times cases of obstruction of official business."
