The comprehensive special counsel has requested an arrest warrant for former Korea TV (KTV) President Lee Eun-woo. This is the first time the comprehensive special counsel has sought an arrest warrant.
According to legal sources on the 18th, the special counsel for uncovering the truth behind acts of insurrection, treason, and state affairs manipulation by Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee (Special Counsel Kwon Chang-young, comprehensive special counsel) sought an arrest warrant that afternoon for former KTV President Lee Eun-woo on charges of insurrection propaganda.
Lee is accused of using authority over programming and transmission of public channel breaking news to order the deletion of news or captions criticizing the Dec. 3 martial law, and of repeatedly airing content that preached the legitimacy of the insurrection.
The comprehensive special counsel said, "After reviewing the case records of insurrection propaganda for suspects who were not indicted by the first special counsel investigating the insurrection case, it was confirmed that, having lost the media's duty of checks and oversight, they defended and shielded the insurrection forces even after the lifting of martial law."
Meanwhile, for the first special counsel's allegation limited to ordering news deletions, an unarrested indictment was filed for abuse of authority obstructing the exercise of rights. The first trial is reportedly underway.
