With the June 3 local elections approaching, police launched an investigation after controversy grew as a post plotting a terror attack targeting Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, spread on social media (SNS).
On the 17th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul said it opened an investigation into the "terror plot" against the leader after receiving a request from the Democratic Party of Korea to investigate Jung.
Police said they plan to investigate whether there is a single suspect or multiple suspects.
Earlier, on the morning of the 17th, the Democratic Party of Korea held a press conference at the National Assembly's communication center and said it had requested a police investigation after receiving indications on social media of a terror plot targeting Jung.
