The National Fire Agency said on the 15th it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security to strengthen cooperation in firefighting, rescue, and emergency response.
On the day in Hanoi, Vietnam, National Fire Agency Commissioner Kim Seung-ryong and others met with Vietnam's Vice Minister Nguyễn Ngọc Lâm of the Ministry of Public Security and agreed to expand cooperation between the two countries in firefighting and rescue.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the sides will pursue: ▲ exchanges of information and experience on laws and national management related to firefighting, rescue, and emergency response ▲ human resources development and capacity building in firefighting, rescue, and emergency response ▲ exchanges of experience in establishing, managing, and operating firefighting and rescue command centers and training centers ▲ cooperation and development in the firefighting industry ▲ cooperation in firefighting, rescue, emergency response, and humanitarian assistance activities in the event of large-scale natural disasters.
In particular, Vietnam has recently revised laws related to firefighting and rescue and is advancing functions not only for fire prevention and suppression but also for rescue, lifesaving, and emergency response, and the National Fire Agency expected that Korea's experience building the 119 emergency call system would be helpful.
Kim, the National Fire Agency commissioner, said, "We will push follow-up discussions with a sense of speed so that this MOU does not remain a formal agreement but leads to practical cooperation that protects the safety of people in both countries."
