Yongin will push to change the names of underpasses and intersections with similar names that are causing confusion among residents. Samgakgok No. 1 Underpass will be changed to Samgakgok Underpass, and Samgakgok No. 2 Underpass to Seokseong Underpass.
According to Yongin on the 14th, the city the previous day held a toponymy committee meeting to establish names for underpasses and intersections. In addition to Samgakgok No. 1 and No. 2 underpasses, the underpass at 1432, Jukjeon-dong will be renamed Jukjeon Station Underpass, and the intersection at 119-17, Jukjeon-dong will be renamed Daeji Intersection.
The city plans to submit the toponymy committee's review results to Gyeonggi Province. The name changes will be finalized after discussions by the Gyeonggi Province toponymy committee and a review by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
A city official said, "Numbers and similar names have been mixed among major underpass names, raising concerns about misreports or delayed dispatches during emergencies," adding, "An accurate facility name and location information system will play a key role in securing the golden time for disaster response."
