Both the investigations and criminal divisions chiefs at the Seoul Gangnam Police Station have been replaced. Allegations emerged at the Gangnam station that influencer Yang Jeong-won provided entertainment to police through her husband to quash a fraud case against her.
According to police and others on the 13th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency issued its regular midlevel inspector-grade personnel appointments the previous day for the first half of this year. The chiefs of Investigations Divisions 1, 2 and 3 and Criminal Divisions 1 and 2 at the Gangnam station were all replaced. Some called it the biggest reshuffle since the so-called "Burning Sun case."
Gangnam Investigations Divisions 1 and 2 have handled the case in which Yang was accused of fraud and other charges by franchise owners of a Pilates academy chain. During the process, the then Investigations Division 1 team leader (inspector) came under suspicion of receiving money and entertainment from Yang's husband, identified only by the surname Lee and known as a wealthy individual, and is under a prosecutors' investigation.
Earlier, Park Seong-ju, head of the National Office of Investigation (NOI), said at a regular press briefing that "we plan to conduct rotational appointments for inspector- and senior inspector-level officers working in investigation units in the Gangnam area, taking into comprehensive account various evaluations, including length of service."
