The single-family house in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, where the late Yonsei University emeritus professor Yoon Ki-jung, father of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, lived has entered auction proceedings.
According to legal sources on the 12th, the Seoul Western District Court decided to commence a voluntary auction for the single-family house on the 29th. The auction was filed by Geumcheon Credit Union.
The single-family house is where Professor Yoon lived with his family, including former President Yoon, since 1975. After the children became adults, Emeritus Professor Yoon continued to live there until 2019, when a woman identified as A, the sister of major shareholder Kim Man-bae of Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management, purchased it for 1.9 billion won.
When this became known in 2019 ahead of the presidential election, it sparked controversy. At the time, former President Yoon's side said Professor Yoon had difficulty climbing stairs after hip surgery, so he put the house on the market through his daughter and sold it below market price. They also said they did not know A's personal details or financial ties.
Three revolving mortgages are registered on the dwellings, in favor of Geumcheon Credit Union and a person surnamed Kim. Geumcheon Credit Union's maximum claim amount is 1.56 billion won, and the person surnamed Kim holds 1.2 billion won (two claims). The revolving mortgages were registered after A purchased the house.
