Prosecutor Um Hee-jun, indicted on charges of excluding junior Prosecutor Moon Ji-seok during the investigation into the so-called "Coupang unpaid severance case," filed a complaint accusing Special Prosecutor Ahn Kwon-seop, who investigated Um, and others of abuse of power and other offenses.
Um's side said in a media notice on the 12th that "we filed a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against Special Prosecutor Ahn Kwon-seop; special prosecutor assistants Kim Ki-uk and Kwon Do-hyung; and three seconded prosecutors on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of another's rights, leaking official secrets, and drafting and using false official documents."
Um argued that Ahn and the special counsel team distorted the case by intentionally omitting facts from the indictment to construct a false frame and by deliberately excluding objective physical evidence.
Um also claimed they undermined fairness and objectivity by leaking job-related secrets, including the direction of the investigation, to Moon, who was the subject of the probe.
In April 2025, while serving respectively as head and deputy chief prosecutor of the Bucheon District Office of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, Um was indicted and is on trial on charges of ordering the lead prosecutor to exclude Moon, a direct superior, from the Coupang unpaid severance case.
