Jang, 24, who swung a knife at and killed an unfamiliar female high school student on a downtown street in Gwangju, was found not to have antisocial personality disorder (psychopathy).
Gwangsan Police Station said it administered the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) to Jang, who is detained on charges of murder and attempted murder, and concluded that the score was below the threshold (25 points) and did not meet the criteria for psychopathy.
The psychopathy assessment evaluates antisocial traits such as callousness, lack of empathy, impulsivity and egocentrism across 20 items and assigns a score. The total is 40 points, and in Korea, scores of 25 points or higher are classified as psychopathy.
Around 12:11 a.m. on the 5th, Jang was arrested and later detained on suspicion of stabbing to death A, a 17-year-old second-year high school student, with a knife on a walkway near a university in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan District, and swinging a knife at B, another 17-year-old high school student.
Police plan to release Jang's identity information on the 14th.
