With it confirmed that Jang, 24, who was arrested on suspicion of killing a high school girl in downtown Gwangju, stalked another woman two days before the crime, police are focusing on the connection between the stalking case and the murder.
Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station said on the 8th that it is closely investigating the link between the case of Jang, who was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder, and a stalking report filed against Jang two days before the crime.
According to police, A, a foreign woman who was Jang's part-time coworker, reported Jang as the perpetrator of stalking near the Cheomdan District in Gwangsan-gu on the 3rd, two days before the attack on the high school student. Jang went to see A, who was preparing to move to another region, and engaged in a scuffle, saying, "Don't leave," it was found.
Right after the stalking report, police confirmed indications that Jang moved while carrying two knives and have been tracking movements from the 3rd through the day of the crime. Accordingly, police are conducting witness interviews with A as well as Jang's acquaintances and family.
Police are also continuing a search to find one of the two mobile phones Jang used, which Jang said was discarded in a stream. The other phone Jang had was found to be a device without a service plan, and a digital forensic analysis is underway.
On this day, police plan to additionally administer a psychopathy (antisocial personality disorder) assessment on Jang and convene a personal information disclosure review committee to decide whether to release identifying information.
Earlier, on the 5th, Jang was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing B, a second-year high school girl, on a walkway near a university in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and seriously injuring another high school student, C.
