Off-duty firefighters watching a professional baseball game quickly put out a fire near the stadium, preventing further damage, authorities said belatedly.
According to fire authorities and the team on the 7th, Firefighter Kim Hyun-seung and Capt. Park Young-su of the Uiwang Fire Station moved to the scene immediately and began initial suppression after smoke drifted in while they were attending a game on their day off on the 6th at Suwon KT Wiz Park.
The two identified themselves as firefighters, took hold of a fire hose, and, together with team officials, blocked the spread of the flames.
The fire broke out at an outdoor recycling area and smoke spread inside the stadium, interrupting the game for about 23 minutes, but there were no casualties thanks to the quick response.
The team believes the fire started from a cigarette butt and plans to strengthen enforcement of no-smoking areas and bolster safety management.
