Members of the Korea University Advancement Association (Da jin yeon) were arrested by police on the 7th after attempting to enter the U.S. Embassy in Jongno District, Seoul.
Around noon that day, members of the Korea University Advancement Association held a surprise rally in front of the embassy's main gate condemning Xavier Brunson, the commander of U.S. Forces Korea. They then tried to enter the embassy, saying they would deliver an Seohan Engineering & Construction of protest, and clashed with police.
Police judged that members of the Korea University Advancement Association held an unreported rally, arrested them, and took them in to nearby police stations.
Even while being taken in, members of the Korea University Advancement Association held small banners with phrases such as "Sovereignty-insulting Brunson, leave this land!" and "Withdraw the war-instigating U.S. military bases in Korea!" and chanted slogans.
The Korea University Advancement Association argued that Commander Brunson's remarks on the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON) at a U.S. congressional appearance in the previous month were a violation of sovereignty.
Commander Brunson proposed the timing for meeting the conditions for OPCON transfer as "the first quarter of 2029 (January–March)" and made remarks to the effect that "political expediency must not overtake the conditions."
