A man in his 20s was arrested and jailed after he killed a high school girl he did not know by brandishing a weapon on a street in Gwangju and injured a male high school student.
According to legal sources on the 7th, Presiding Judge Jeong Gyo-hyeong, who handles warrants at the Gwangju District Court, issued a warrant after holding a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review) for Jang (24), who is suspected of murder and attempted murder. The judge said detention was necessary due to concerns about flight, among other reasons.
Jang was arrested on suspicion of stabbing to death A (17), a second-year high school girl, with a weapon and swinging the weapon at another high school student, B (17), at about 12:11 a.m. on the 5th on a pedestrian path near a university in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu. A, whose future dream was to become an emergency medical technician, was killed while walking home alone. B was passing nearby, heard A scream, and was stabbed while going to help.
Police conducted a psychopathy (antisocial personality disorder) assessment on Jang that day. They also plan to review on the 8th whether to disclose identifying information.
