A man in his 20s who fatally stabbed a high school girl he did not know and injured a high school boy on a street in Gwangju appeared for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review).
A person surnamed Jang (24), arrested on charges including murder and attempted murder, appeared for the warrant review held at the Gwangju District Court on the morning of the 7th.
After getting out of the transport vehicle and walking toward the court, Jang answered reporters' questions such as whether there was anything to say to the victim by saying, "I am truly sorry. I am truly sorry for committing an irreparable crime."
To the question "Why did you attack a female student," Jang said, "I did not know the victim was a female student when I killed. It was not planned."
The warrant review ended in about 10 minutes. When Jang left the courtroom and returned to the transport vehicle, Jang did not answer any questions from reporters. Whether Jang will be detained is expected to be decided in the afternoon.
At about 12:11 a.m. on the 5th, Jang was arrested on suspicion of stabbing to death A (17), a second-year high school girl, with a weapon on a pedestrian path near a university in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, and swinging a weapon at B (17), another high school boy.
A, whose future dream was to be an emergency medical technician, was killed while returning home alone. B was passing nearby, heard A's scream, went to help, and was stabbed.
Jang reportedly told police that the reason for the crime was along the lines of, "Life was not fun, and while thinking about suicide, I decided to commit the crime."
Police plan to conduct a review on whether to disclose Jang's personal information and carry out a psychopath (antisocial personality disorder) assessment.
