A video of a female spectator captured on a Korea professional baseball broadcast drew global attention, but suspicions have been raised that the clip was manipulated with artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 4th, a five-second video was posted on Reddit under the title "Not an average Korean woman." The clip showed a woman in a white off-shoulder top and jeans watching the game.
Within a day of being posted, the video received more than 1,200 upvotes, spread to domestic online communities, and drew over 8 million views, attracting major attention.
However, among baseball fans, there is continued criticism that the clip was manipulated with AI. The player information displayed at the top left of the video has been cited as a key basis.
The clip lists Kim Seo-hyun as the pitcher and Cho In-sung as the batter, but Cho In-sung never played for Doosan, and the explanation is that Kim Seo-hyun retired before joining Hanwha in 2023.
There is also criticism that the wording on a placard is wrong. The placard at the bottom right reads "Doosan is the strongest," which critics say is an error for "Strongest Doosan."
Some are taking issue with the game score. Some internet users noted, "There was no 4-3 score in the 8th inning in Doosan vs. Hanwha games this year or last year."
Based on these circumstances, the possibility has been raised that the clip was synthesized with AI, while online reactions also said it was "even more surprising because it looks natural."
