A worker in his 20s died from electrocution while performing a crane power cutoff at a substation in Gangseo District, Busan.
According to Busan Gangseo Police Station on the 4th, a fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. at a terminal substation in Busan New Port in Gangseo District, Busan.
Fire authorities extinguished the blaze by 9:35 a.m., five minutes after the report, and found worker A, in their 20s, collapsed while searching inside the substation room.
A was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but died during treatment.
Police believe A was electrocuted while opening a distribution panel and cutting off power to a crane in the terminal substation room, after which the fire occurred.
Police said they are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including questioning company officials.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) issued a work-stoppage order for the terminal and is investigating potential violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
