The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 4th that it held a meeting to review the progress of disaster recovery projects, presided over by Kim Gwang-yong, head of the Disaster Safety Management Office.
At the meeting held at the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room in the Government Complex Sejong that day, Deputy Minister Kim reviewed the status of restoring public facilities damaged by last year's wildfires and heavy rain ahead of the summer rainy season. The meeting also discussed disaster recovery measures by each participating agency.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), as of the end of April this year, 66.9% (6,781) of the 10,135 disaster recovery projects nationwide have been completed. Of these, wildfire-affected areas saw 54.4% (561) of 1,031 projects finished, while heavy-rain-affected areas saw 68.3% (6,220) of 9,104 projects wrapped up.
The government plans to minimize the recurrence of damage by prioritizing the completion of key processes in areas where it is difficult to finish construction before the rainy season due to physical conditions or administrative procedures.
Kim Gwang-yong, head of the Disaster Safety Management Office, said, "We will further accelerate the progress of disaster recovery projects so that restoration in areas damaged by wildfires and heavy rain can be completed before the rainy season," and added, "We will also ensure thorough safety management to prevent safety accidents at business sites."
