A lawyer appointed as a special investigator for the special counsel team posted photos of a suspect's statement and other materials on social media (SNS), stirring controversy.
According to legal sources on the 3rd, a special investigator surnamed Lee from the comprehensive special counsel team currently investigating cases related to the three major special counsels posted on Lee's SNS the previous day a photo taken with Special Counsel Kwon Chang-young, the investigator appointment certificate, and an image containing part of a suspect's statement.
In the post, Lee said, "If I build investigative experience from an investigator's perspective, my expertise in criminal cases will improve," explaining the reason for joining the special counsel. The post has since been deleted.
Lee was also reported to have listed on the SNS profile the experience as a special investigator for the special counsel, along with an introduction as a criminal and divorce specialist attorney.
Lee also wrote on the SNS profile the experience as a special investigator (Grade-5 civil servant) for the special counsel, along with a description as a divorce specialist and criminal attorney.
As the controversy grew, the special counsel team is reviewing whether to take action against the investigator. The team said in a notice that day, "No position has been decided," and "We plan to discuss the related matter."
The special counsel team can appoint up to 100 special investigators, who receive status and treatment equivalent to Grade 3–5 special-service civil servants.
