Pastor Jun Kwang-hun of Sarang Jeil Church, who was released on bail citing the need for hospital treatment, said of former President Yoon Suk-yeol that he "has no guts." Aiming at the former president's legal team, he added, "They are stupid."
Pastor Jun was identified as the mastermind behind the Seoul Western District Court disturbance, was indicted and detained, and then last month was put on trial without detention. Since his release, he has continued public remarks through rallies and services at Gwanghwamun.
According to a worship service video from the 26th of last month posted on Pastor Jun's YouTube channel on the 3rd, Pastor Jun brought up the issue of martial law with Kim Hak-seong, an emeritus professor at the Graduate School of Law at Kangwon National University. When Pastor Jun asked, "Does the Constitution provide for martial law?" Professor Kim replied, "It allows it."
Pastor Jun then criticized the former president's legal response. He said, "The attorneys, including Yoon Gap-geun, are stupid." Former Daegu High Prosecutors' Office Chief Yoon Gap-geun has been part of the former president's defense team.
Pastor Jun's remarks came as he raised an issue with the passage where the National Assembly, during the impeachment trial of the former president, withdrew the "Criminal Act insurrection" charge from the articles of impeachment. At the time, the National Assembly's impeachment committee streamlined the portion that directly contested whether the Criminal Act insurrection charge was established, noting that the impeachment trial was a constitutional review to decide on removing the president from office, not a criminal trial.
Taking issue with this, Pastor Jun said, "Because Jung Chung-rae was the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chair, they took out the insurrection charge, and then the former president could have just stood up and said, 'I'm going to the presidential office,' and that's it." He added, "No guts."
Pastor Jun went on to make a similar point again. He said, "Then they wouldn't even be able to pass a special prosecutor law, and looking at President Yoon Suk-yeol, he has no guts." He also said of the former president, "From 4 a.m., he only reads the Bible."
Four days after making those remarks, on the 30th of last month, Pastor Jun visited the Seoul Detention Center to see the former president.
Pastor Jun was released on bail on the 7th of last month by a court decision. The court considered that Pastor Jun needs regular hospital treatment for a urological condition stemming from diabetes. It also saw his widely recognized face, making flight difficult, as a reason to grant bail. However, the court attached a condition prohibiting Pastor Jun from contacting seven people related to the case.
After his release, Pastor Jun resumed off-site remarks. On the 12th of last month, he appeared by video at a weekend service at Gwanghwamun Square and said, "We have won." At a Gwanghwamun rally on the 18th of the same month, he said, "The Republic of Korea is already ruined." Pastor Jun also attended Gwanghwamun rallies on the 25th of last month and on the 2nd of this month.
