The World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA) said on the 30th it has appointed Kim Bo-su, chair of the Global Industry Competitiveness Forum, as the new head of its Institute for International Trade Strategy.
The Institute for International Trade Strategy was established in 2006 to advance the overseas Korean network. Aiming to research strategic policy measures and to foster and activate overseas economic communities, it is responsible for developing linkage programs between domestic small and midsize enterprises and venture companies and overseas Korean companies.
Kim, the new head, served as Deputy Minister at the Federation of Korean Industries. At the time, Kim mainly worked on research into multilateral trade policies such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and free trade agreements (FTA) and made recommendations to the government. Kim also served as the general manager of the working-level team for the five major economic organizations at the National Competitiveness Enhancement Committee, a public-private cooperation body to overcome the International Monetary Fund (IMF) crisis. Kim later moved to the Research Institute for Medium-sized Enterprises as vice president and focused on resolving difficulties faced by mid-sized companies, recruiting members, and raising their standing.
Kim also served as secretary for economic policy at the Gangwon Provincial Government, working to attract corporations to Gangwon Province and to promote cooperation between large corporations and small and midsize corporations.
Kim said, "Going forward, I will work to establish the status of World-OKTA as the seventh economic organization and to build an institutional research framework for the development of international trade as an expanded public-private cooperation body."
