A person identified as A, who introduced herself as a teacher on the anonymous workplace community Blind, posted that her husband eats oriental melon seeds and disparaged him as being from a "poor household," sparking controversy.
A said, "I was eating oriental melon with my husband and he just chewed and ate all the seeds. I thought of course you scoop out the seeds, so I was flustered because he ate them like it was nothing." She added, "Honestly, I'm a teacher and I see a lot of kids, and when I see kids who even eat fruit seeds, most are from poor households because they're from single-parent families or their parents' jobs aren't great," and said, "Seeing an adult still doing that makes it feel like there was no guidance, so to be honest, it's a bit of a turnoff."
She went on, "I learned all these things from a young age, and I didn't notice while we were dating, but after getting married I feel a stark gap in these small things," and explained, "We're newlyweds—do I have to put up with every little thing like this?"
In response, many online users said, "Isn't it normal to eat oriental melon seeds too?" and "It's actually less tasty if you remove the seeds," showing they could not sympathize with A. In particular, there was criticism such as, "It's inappropriate to link personal eating habits to home environment or wealth," and "Her qualifications as a teacher are in doubt."
