At about 7:27 p.m. on the 29th, a fire broke out at an insulation materials manufacturing plant in Yeonpyeong-ri, Jinjeop-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi.
One plant official, a man in his 50s, reportedly suffered second-degree burns to the face due to the fire.
Fire authorities issued "response level 1" at about 7:49 p.m., 22 minutes after the fire started. At present, 39 pieces of equipment and 70 personnel have been deployed to carry out firefighting operations. The fire has spread to two to three factory buildings, and fire authorities are focusing on preventing further spread.
Response level 1 is an alert that mobilizes personnel and equipment from up to four nearby fire stations. It is expanded to response levels 2–3 depending on the scale of the fire and the extent of the damage.
Fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once the blaze is extinguished.
Through a safety alert text message, Namyangju City said, "A large amount of smoke is occurring, so nearby residents should take care to avoid safety accidents."
