Singer Kim Bada (55, birth name Kim Jeong-nam), formerly of the rock band Sinawe, was handed over to prosecutors on suspicion of possessing and smoking marijuana.
According to police and others on the 27th, Sokcho Police Station in Gangwon recently sent Kim Bada to the prosecution without detention on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act. During the police investigation, Kim Bada was said to have admitted to most of the charges.
Police sought an arrest warrant for Kim Bada, but the court rejected it, saying there was insufficient proof of grounds for detention, such as concerns about flight and destruction of evidence, and sent the case to prosecutors with Kim not in custody.
Kim Bada has a prior record for charges including smoking and purchasing marijuana in 2008–2009. At the time, the court sentenced Kim Bada to one year in prison, suspended for two years, citing factors including being a first-time offender.
As this case came to light, Kim Bada parted ways with the agency and Sinawe members. On the 14th, Kim Bada said on social media (SNS), "I deeply reflect on and am sorry for the lapse that led to this situation," adding, "I will come back someday with a good album."
