A wildfire that broke out in a state-owned forest in Yeongwol County, Gangwon Province, was extinguished after about three hours.
According to the Korea Forest Service and other forest authorities on the 26th, a wildfire started at about 8:59 p.m. on the 25th in a state-owned forest in Mureungdowon-myeon, Yeongwol County, Gangwon Province, and was brought under control at about 11:55 p.m., roughly three hours later.
Forest authorities, together with fire officials, deployed 119 personnel, including a special suppression team, and 31 pieces of equipment, including fire engines, according to reports. Mop-up work and patrols for lingering embers are underway.
Forest authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once mop-up is complete.
